NEC 525 High Definition Mobile features twin screens,
a camera, polyphonic tones and quad-band GSM. It uses
DoJa, a version of Java, created specifically for the mobile
environment by NTT DoCoMo and Sun Microsystems.
NEC have announced the launch of its first digital camera
phone, the 525 High Definition Mobile (HDM), in the United
States.
It adds an embedded digital camera and a 4,096-colour
external LCD screen.
NEC is releasing the 525 HDM in conjunction with the
enhancement of AT&T Wireless' mMode service. mMode gives
AT&T Wireless customers access to information and
entertainment services. With one-touch access to mMode and
browser features like xHTML technology, NEC customers will
be able to download games, wallpapers and ring tunes to take
advantage of the device's personalization capabilities.
The 525 HDM adds a camera to the 515's suite of features.
The 525's 100K, 2X digital zoom embedded camera enables
users to capture pictures which can then be viewed on the
2.2 inch, 65K colour display.
The 4K-colour external-LCD screen enables consumers to
use caller ID to view colour pictures of all their friends,
family and co-workers.
In addition, the 525 HDM is a GSM /GPRS quad-band
850/900/1800/1900 MHz mobile handset that delivers
international communications capabilities. It comes equipped
with a 40-note polyphonic ring tune chip from Yamaha,
providing users with access to musical ring tones.
The handset features DoJa, a version of Java, created
specifically for the mobile environment by NTT DoCoMo and
Sun Microsystems.
By employing DoJa and utilizing a second, dedicated
applications processor, the 525 HDM claims to offer a
lightning fast mobile gaming experience that does not impact
incoming calls.
Through NEC's re-designed content portal, 515 and 525 HDM
users can download 16-bit stand-by wallpapers, 40-note
polyphonic ring tunes, and DoJa games. Users can also create
their own original ring tune, a new feature to the NEC site.
Plus, they can resize personal picture files and send them
to their handset for use as stand-by wallpapers or picture
caller-ID for greater customization.
NEC rate the units 800 mAh Lithium-Ion battery as
providing up to 150 hours of standby or over 5 hours of
talk-time, and the unit weighs a healthy 114 g. Included
software features e-mail support, PC-synchronization and a
PIM suite.
The NEC 525 High Definition Mobile phone is now available
at AT&T Wireless locations across the country and at the NEC
HDM web site.
