The mmO2 PDA is from former British Telecom is a combination mobile phone and PDA that runs Microsoft's Pocket PC 2002 operating-system software. As with all mobile phones sold in Europe, it's a GSM phone that also supports the always-on data capability known as GPRS, or general packet radio service. 

That means it can receive e-mail as it's sent, without the user first having to dial in, as you do with many current PDAs that use wireless modems. 

The O2 xda will also do pretty much everything else that other Pocket PC devices do. It will play digital music files, share data with a PC and run the Pocket versions of Word and Excel. But the company says it's also working on its own custom-software applications. 

Other specifications include a 4,000 color TFT display, 32 megabytes of RAM, and a 206-megahertz Intel StrongARM processor, which is basically becoming the equivalent of the Pentium for Pocket PC handhelds. The phone battery will allow for 3.5 hours of talk time and 150 hours of standby time. 

There's no word on price, and the company says the device won't be available until next year, and then only in selected European markets.
