SMC(R) Networks (www.smc.com) announced today its newest networking
toolkit for the traveling professional: the SMCWTVG Wireless Travel
Voice Gateway. An all-in-one travel networking kit, the SMCWTVG
integrates the functions of a wireless gateway and a Voice over IP
analog telephone adapter (ATA) in one compact device.
Packaged in an easy-to-carry zipper pouch with RJ-11, RJ-45 and USB
cables, as well as an AC adapter, it's as easy to carry as it is to use
-- and it makes leveraging the full breadth of Internet services even
easier. Available beginning April 1, 2006, at a manufacturer's suggested
retail price of $129.99, the new SMCWTVG opens up new possibilities for
business travel communications.
The SMCWTVG integrates the function of a wireless gateway and a VoIP ATA
into a compact device. A high-speed broadband router that is capable of
delivering Internet access to several users via built-in NAT
functionality, its wireless features can be used in any of three
different operating modes: as an 802.11b/g access point providing
service to wireless clients; as a wireless client itself for PC
connections to other Wi-Fi networks; and as a wireless repeater. Its
wireless access flexibility and VoIP access features combined in one
portable device make the SMCWTVG Wireless Travel Voice Gateway the
perfect accessory for any corporate or business traveler.
"Communication is key when you're on the road, and this new wireless
travel voice gateway covers all the bases," said SMC product manager
Brian Nickell. "It facilitates wireless Internet access, sharing that
access with colleagues or multiple wireless devices; and it frees up
calling options by allowing travelers to hook up their analog phones to
make and receive calls via the traditional phone company while
maintaining access to VoIP service for economical long-distance and
International calling."
Connecting to the ADSL/CableModem/wired network via a built-in 10/100
BaseT port, the SMCWTVG connects to a PC either via RJ45 to the second
10/100 BaseT port, or wirelessly, via 802.11b/g. Two RJ-11 voice
interface ports manage analog telephone connection: one FXS voice
interface to connect an analog phone for low-cost calling via a VoIP
service or VoIP access to the corporate LAN; and one FXO voice interface
for placing and receiving calls routed through the traditional telephone
service provider on the regular PSTN line.
Easy to set up with just a few simple clicks, the SMCWTVG provides a
secure wireless network environment. In addition to its SPI firewall
with VPN pass-through, the SMCWTVG also employs advanced WPA2 and WEP
encryption to protect privacy in crowded hotspot or hotel environments
and MAC address filtering and disable SSID broadcast to block
unauthorized access
