The Best Technology for Home and Building Control Arrives in Italy for Demonstration

-The ZigBee(TM) Alliance, the world's only non-profit industry association promoting the growth of a global, open standard for wireless control of devices used to automate homes, commercial buildings and industrial environments, today announced it will hold a public interoperability event at its next Open House in Milan, March 16, 2006.

The Open House features live demonstrations of low-power wireless mesh network technology found in ZigBee products from multiple Alliance member companies including: BM Group, Ember, Freescale, Renesas, Texas Instruments, Crossbow, Jennic, Atmel, Atalum, Cirronet, Daintree, Luxoft Labs, MaxStream, Microchip, Mindteck, Motorola, Nanotron, OKI, Radiocrafts AS, Ubiwave and ZMD. More than 400 people from around the world are expected to participate in discussions on how this new technology will automate homes and commercial buildings and industrial settings globally. Participants will also witness a live interoperability demonstration, showcasing the wide range of technologies produced by member companies.

"We hold Open House events around the world so that every region has an opportunity to see first-hand how the best wireless control and sensing technology available today will shape tomorrow," said Bob Heile, chairman of the ZigBee Alliance. "This is an unprecedented opportunity for technology companies in Italy, Europe and the rest of the world, to learn how they can join hundreds of other companies who are working together and developing leading products designed to provide consumers with the ultimate in flexibility, mobility, and ease of use. They're doing all this by building ZigBee wireless intelligence and capabilities into everyday devices we have around our homes and offices."

The Open House will be keynoted by a European company showcasing why ZigBee was the only choice for their application, and is overlaid with a variety of technical sessions outlining the ZigBee architecture, framework, security layers and the ZigBee specification. The event also features a member exposition and concludes with an evening reception, where attendees will have the opportunity to network with ZigBee Alliance member companies. Additionally, the Alliance will host a private, media-only demonstration on Thursday, March 16, at the Marriott Milan Hotel beginning at 11:45. To register for this exclusive event, please contact zigbee_media@zigbee.org.
