109 EDGE networks launched or under construction |
The Global mobile Suppliers' Association (GSA) announced yesterday that
that there are 109 network operators in 65 countries who are committed to
deploying next-generation EDGE mobile networks and that at least 34 networks
are currently offering commercial EDGE-enabled services, according to the
trade association's research completed today. The number of countries deploying EDGE in Asia, Europe and the Middle
East combined (36) exceeds the number of countries where EDGE is deployed in
the Americas and Caribbean region (28). Similarly, the number of EDGE operators in Asia, Europe and the Middle
East, which totals 55, exceeds the number of EDGE operators in the Americas
and Caribbean, which amounts to 51. Finally, 21 networks have commercially launched EDGE-enabled services in
Asia, Europe and the Middle East, while 13 have been launched in the
Americas and Caribbean region.
