The Liberian Ministry of Post and Telecommunications has instructed GSM companies to interconnect.

The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications on Monday mandated the Management of Lone Star and Libercell, including the Liberia Telecommunications Corporation (LTC) to interconnect within three weeks' time.

The issue of interconnection by GSM companies operating in the country has been the dream and expectation of thousands of cell-phone users.

When the Lone Star Communication began operating few years ago, its system was interfacing with that of the Liberia Telecommunication Corporation.

But surpassingly and to the disappointment of hundreds of subscribers, it abolished the process without any explanation whatsoever to the public.

Notwithstanding, a Postal Affairs release issued Monday under the signature of Abraham Kromah, Deputy Minister for Technical Services, said the Ministry believes that the interconnection by the two companies will afford the Liberian people the opportunity to communicate with each other without hindrance.

The Ministry said, its decision is based on separate meetings held with the Management of the companies.

At the same time, the Ministry is warning would be GSM operator to seek permission from the Ministry before interconnecting with any GSM company
