Vodacom Nigeria will change of the network identification of Econet Nigeria to VEE NETWORKS. The company’s Board of Directors has approved the new name, which has equally been endorsed by shareholders. The Corporate Affairs Commission has approved the new name and has issued a Certificate of Change.

The changes saw the appointment of former acting chief executive officer CEO, Boye Olusanya as substantial deputy CEO. After Willem Swart, former CEO of Vodacom Congo , was named Managing Director of Vodacom Nigeria.

A statement from the Vodacom headquarters said that these changes are in line with the new direction that is being set for the company following the signing of a five year management pact between Vodacom Pty. of South Africa and the former Econet Wireless Nigeria Limited.

Other players in the market are likely to respond to Vodacom’s moves with corresponding price cuts and other customer drawing incentives. Already MTN’s on-going price slash promo is seen by market watchers as a preemptive measure to pull the rug out from under the financially stronger Vodacom before it could find its feet in Nigeria.

PSB was pioneered by the Globacom which other networks had earlier tag a no-go area in spite of the public outcry for the billing system. As soon as Globacom came in with more consumer friendly tariff plan on its GSM products other networks followed suit.
