Nokia keen on DAB Visual Radio revenue stream |
Home Nokia is expecting a lot from a new GPRS Visual Radio service that sends
information and images, synchronised to an FM radio station, to mobile phones.
In its basic version, the new revenue stream is described by the company as
never having to wonder Who is playing What on the radio. Users will be able to
vote on popular topics. The service is currently available on the Nokia 7700, but the firm plans to
release more Visual Radio-enabled handsets in the future. A media rich service
can be transmitted at around 200 Kb per hour, but it varies greatly depending on
graphics. The end-user has no additional subscription to pay, only the standard GPRS
data rate. Nokia is studying extending Visual Radio to AM stations.
