27 Feb 04 To support the expected number of wireless users worldwide, mobile carriers will increase their spending from US$262 million in 2004 to US$763 million in 2008. "Wireless Infrastructure Forecast," a new report from Probe Group, forecasts the wireless infrastructure market and assesses regional demand. After expected delays in deploying 3GSM carriers are preparing for meaningful rollouts. "Once the few networks using it are stable and optimized, there will be a rapid increase in deployments" commented Allan Tumolillo, Probe Group COO. Carriers are seeing substantial revenues from their 2.5G networks. "In, the U.S., Verizon and Sprint PCS are at last reporting the number of data subscribers on their CDMA 1XRTT networks," Tumolillo continued. "Vodafone appears to be successful with its 'Live!' network, having sold three million 'Live!' compatible phones." Though things look quiet in the public realm for 3G, there is a lot of activity behind the scenes that will soon show results. Probe's recent report, "Wireless Infrastructure Forecast," reviews the history of wireless data services and forecasts the number of wireless Internet subscriber worldwide. It summarizes data initiates by AT&T, Vodafone, and Verizon. This report is part of the Wireless Internet Services and Networks series, which provides ongoing analysis of wireless internet devices and services.
