WOODBURY, N.Y. -- Comverse, a unit of Comverse Technology, Inc., and the world's leading supplier of software and systems enabling network-based multimedia enhanced communications services, today announced that Telecom Serbia (Telekom Srbija) has selected Comverse's Multimedia Messaging Service Center 2.2 (MMSC) and Comverse Mobile Data Gateway 4.0 (MDG) supporting WAP 2.0 to enable mobile multimedia messaging.

Highlights of Comverse MMSC 2.2 include the following: Optimal display of multimedia content on handsets (interoperability), a hallmark of Comverse MMSC's advanced content adaptation framework and dedicated external transcoding server. Responsiveness to evolving operator preferences and needs. By eliminating requirements for new code when adapting the MMS service, the eXtensible Messaging Framework (XMF) speeds time to market for new multimedia services. Advanced support for third-party multimedia content and applications, with full support for the MM7 interface defined in 3GPP standards.

Highlights of Comverse MDG 4.0 (supporting WAP 2.0) include the following: Heavy traffic load handling. The network-based solution contributes to a better heavy traffic user experience and provides data service provisioning, advanced billing schemes, and rich CDRs for common device types. Downloading of large multimedia files. Downloading is made possible by enhanced Segmentation and Reassembly (SAR) capabilities.

Seamless linear scalability. Scalability provides support for increases in mobile data traffic expected from the introduction of new color handsets, multimedia and photo messaging, mobile email, and J2ME applications such as games.

Telecom Serbia will benefit from Comverse MMSC 2.2 advanced administration facilities and powerful tools for statistics and report generation. Telecom Serbia subscribers' experience will also be enhanced by Comverse's MMBox -- which makes it easy to compose, store and manage messages via the Web. Additionally, Comverse MMBox's library of public and private folders organizes extensive content (audio, picture, and video) for creative messaging.

MDG's easy creation and flexible management of various business models supports Telecom Serbia's business objectives. Mr. Vlada Lucic, Executive Manager of Telecom Serbia Mobile Division said, "Enthusiastic references from carriers who have launched the Comverse MMSC and MDG confirm that we are bringing our customers the best possible multimedia solution -- characterized by quality, stability, and an advanced portfolio of applications based on full implementation of the MM7 interface and the WAP 2.0 standard. It is also of importance to us that Comverse has long demonstrated a high level of excellence, technical expertise, and support in our region." "As a world leader in Total Communication, we place MMS and MDG at the very core of our business focus" commented Gadi Bahat, President of Comverse International. We look forward to continuing to deepen our relationship with Telecom Serbia as one of their major strategic suppliers; and are pleased to continue expanding our MMSC and MDG presence in Europe and throughout the world."
