14 Oct 03Mobile access to the internet has trebled in the last 12 months, with the total number of page impressions viewed in during August being 884 million according to the Mobile Data Association (MDA).
The figure, from GSM Network operators O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone, takes the daily average to 28.5 million, compared to 9 million per day in August 2002, MDA said.
Mike Short, Chairman of the MDA said: "An area of enormous growth is the ringtone/downloads market, the demand for which has rocketed due to increasing take-up of improved handsets with polyphonic sound".
The MDA expects WAP page impressions to reach 8 billion by the end of the year as a result. August's figure currently provides a cumulative total for 2003 of almost 5.5 billion.
