There has been a third report of Nokia phones exploding,
this time from Vietnam. Chung Xao Le was having a meal in a staff cafeteria
at a hospital in Ho Chi Minh City where she worked when her phone in her
pocket exploded.
The phone was a Nokia 8210. Le suffered from burns to 10% of
her body and remains in hospital.
Local Nokia representatives are investigating the blast, which as with
recent incidents in The Netherlands are initially being blamed on 3rd party
batteries.
There is no indication yet if the batteries are all coming from a
single source and being resold worldwide.
"We don't yet have any information on what is the origin of the battery
in the Vietnam case," Nokia spokesman Kari Tuutti said.
"There hasn't been a single case of an original battery exploding
anywhere in the world."
