A new technology to appease the FCC opens a world of
voice communication to those with impaired hearing.
Yesterday's FCC order requires all US national wireless carriers to make at
least 25% of all their handsets to be hearing aid-compatible within two
years, while also meeting equality requirements set by various other pieces
of US legislation.
As over 560 million people worldwide suffer some
form of hearing loss, the need for a revolutionary technology presented
itself, according to Able Planet, manufacturer of the new Micro-Technology
that claims to offer a solution to this problem.
The technology works through the hands-free set of the phone rather than the
handset itself, although as the patent-pending system is just 1mm in size,
it has applications in laptops, mp3 players and so on.
A major US hotel group, Hyatt Hotel Corporation,
has already volunteered to adopt the technology.
For those with hearing aids, the technology can
be used by adjusting the hearing aid to 'T', while for those without hearing
loss they will never know the technology was in place.
