Nokia, handset manufacturer, had a 43% share of
the global GSM cellular phones market in Q1 of 2003, according to a Strategy
Analytics report.
However, the company shipped around 7.6% of CDMA
phones worldwide in Q1 compared to 11.3% in the year-earlier period. Nokia
is forecast to see brighter prospects for CDMA phones in 2003, when it
launches less-sophisticated CDMA phones, according to Chris Ambrosio, from
Strategy Analytics.
Samsung Electronics, electronics manufacturer, had
a 29% share of the CDMA phones market in Q1, while LG had a 20% share,
Motorola 19%, and Kyocera 11%.
