interWAVE says that it is to supply GSM telecommunications infrastructure to
Madacom, a GSM operator in Madagascar.
The value of the contract was not released.
interWAVE has already begun the deployment of its remote GSM network
solution in 4 cities in Madacom's network.
The systems will provide GSM radio extensions with
compressed satellite backhaul capability for use in reaching remote economic
and tourist areas.
The equipment was delivered within two weeks of receiving
the order. This is the first contract between Madacom and interWAVE, and
interWAVE management presently believes future opportunities exist with this
customer.
Parwez Jugoo, General Director of Madacom, stated, "interWAVE offered an
unparalleled solution based on cost and size, allowing Madacom to continue
to provide customers with the highest level of telecommunications services
while reducing the capital and operating costs to Madacom. interWAVE's
solutions perfectly met our needs for extending coverage to isolated
