Romania's CDMA network, Zapp says that it passed the
100,000 subscribers mark at the end of March 2003. The increase of
subscribers based on the major investment of US$60 million invested in
infrastructure that was enabled to the development of the Zapp coverage
area. Currently, Zapp covers 85% of the urban population of Romania.
"When Zapp adopted CDMA2000 technology, the client satisfaction was
our main objective. All the results we have today come from this
objective. At the end of last year, when we celebrated 1 year since Zapp
launching, we were happy to announce that we had finalized the Phase II
of network rollout, in a very short period of time. Three months after
this event, we are proud that our expectations have confirmed, by
reaching 100,000 subscribers. We are confident in what is to come in the
future and we have as target, the reach of 200,000 subscribers by the
end of 2003", declared Cuneyt Turktan, President of Zapp.
From the total number of clients, 85% are companies and the rest are
individual subscribers. Business clients generate most of the revenue,
the main segment Zapp is addressing to.
The main Zapp shareholder is Inquam Limited, international company
that has as main object of activity the supply of services in mobile
communication network field. The main shareholders of Inquam are
Qualcomm - market leader on the mobile digital products and services
market and OMNIA - an investment fund, affiliated to Saudi Oger
industrial group, developing investments that exceed US$100 billion
worldwide
