The embedded camera phone market is expected to double from 2002 to
2003, according to a new report from Strategy Analytics.
The Boston-based research firm said that sales of camera phones will
reach 37 million worldwide in 2003, up from 18 million in 2002. Half of
those phones were sold in the fourth quarter of 2002.
According to the report, Japan was the strongest market for camera
phones, accounting for 13 million of the 18 million phones sold.
In addition, the report found that 36 percent of camera phone sales in
2002 were through a Vodafone carrier, which Neil Mawston, a senior
analyst for Strategy Analytics, called "a very impressive performance."
