Telkom SA and MTN SA drop fixed to mobile call charges

1 Feb 2003

Telkom and MTN have announced that fixed to mobile calls will cost less with effect from 1 February 2003.

Calls from Telkom to MTN network will decrease by 04 cents, putting the new rate at R1, 84 cents per minute for the first 60 seconds and 92 cents for every 30 seconds thereafter.

"This comes after MTN offered to charge Telkom a lower termination rate than it is entitled to do in terms of an interconnection agreement between the two operators," explained Managing Executive, International and Special Markets, Wally Beelders.

This means Telkom will be passing the saving on to its customers dialling MTN's network.

The new rates only apply to standard time calls from Telkom to MTN from 07:00 to 20:00 weekdays.

Current rates on calls to Vodacom and Cell C remain unchanged at R1, 88 cents per minute for the first 60 seconds and 94 cents for every 30 seconds thereafter.
