Heart Monitor Sends Crucial Information to Cell Phones

IBM has developed a heart monitor that can send a warning message to a pre-determined cell phone number when the user is in cardiac distress.

The device uses short-range wireless technology such as Bluetooth to connect to a cell phone and transmit data in the form of a text message to the cell phone number of a physician, caregiver or emergency service.

The heart monitor user must have a Bluetooth-capable cell phone turned on for the service to work. IBM is seeking a customer to turn the device into a consumer product. (Source: Reuters)
