Cellenium and Coca-Cola Beverages in Switzerland
Launch Wireless Intelligent Vending Test
2003-01-12
Cellenium, a mobile commerce technology provider, and Coca-Cola Beverages (CCB)
AG in Switzerland are launching a test of wireless intelligent vending that
will communicate real-time data to allow remote monitoring of machine
functions and inventory.
The project includes the online monitoring of 100 Coca-Cola Beverages
vending machines using Conex, Cellenium's online vending solution. Based on
Cellenium's proprietary messaging technology, Conex offers vending operators
a means of optimizing the monitoring and control of their vending
operations.
Cellenium's system will be responsible for retrieving data from the vending
machines over cellular networks as well as through hand-held devices carried
by field crews. The wireless transmission optimizes routing and priorities
and provides detailed online reports on all aspects of the vending
operation. Inventory, cash levels and vending machine status are monitored,
and time-sensitive information such as the imminent emptying of the machines
is received.
"Cellenium offers us the means for significantly improving our vending
operations by enabling complete remote monitoring and control of our vending
operations," said Thorsten Weber, Technical Equipment Service Manager of CCB
Switzerland.
The vending machines will also be equipped to accept mobile payments
(m-payments) from consumers using their cell phones to purchase drinks.
Cellenium will provide both the telemetry and the m-payment technologies
combined in one solution.
