Lufthansa Internet to Take to the Skies

Lufthansa will begin offering Connexion by Boeing's in-flight Internet service starting January 15 2003 on a Boeing 747-400 that flies between Dulles International Airport in northern Virginia and Frankfort.

The service will be free for the first month. British Airways will begin offering the Internet service in February on a 747 that flies between London and New York.

British Airways will charge $32 for Internet access for the duration of a flight. Scandinavia's SAS will offer the service on 11 aircraft.

Continental will offer JetConnect service from Verizon on 100 of its planes by the end of the year.

The system connects to the Internet every fifteen minutes, allowing data to be uploaded and downloaded in batches.

The service will offer news, weather, games and destination information at $5.99 per flight. An e-mail function will be added later.
