GSM auction in Austria yields EUR 14.8 million

The Austrian Telekom Control Kommission received EUR 14.8 million for a GSM auction for six frequency packages .

Mobilkom Austria and T-Mobile Austria were the only bidders.

The mobile phone market in Austria experienced an increase in revenue to EUR 2.19 billion in 2001 compared to EUR 1.8 billion in 2000.

 Mobilkom Austria bought one frequency package with the spectrum 2x2,6 MHz for EUR 5.2 million and T-Mobile Austria bought 2 frequency packages of 2x4,8 MHz spectrum for EUR 9.6 million.

The other 3 frequencies will be given back to the Federal Ministry for Traffic, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT).

The suggestion of giving the frequency packages to the telecom regulator for scientific utilization will be taken into consideration by the BMVIT.
