Vodafone has reportedly launched commercial trials of its mobile wallet
m-commerce payment system.
The new m-wallet, integrates with traditional payment methods, will reportedly
be launched at an mobile industry event in late September. Vodafone announced in
March a partnership with T-Mobile to enable interoperability on the platform
between the operators’ subscriber bases.
However, according to Vodafone head of m-commerce Jim Wadsworth, this will not
now be achieved by commercial launch. “We’re still trailing interoperability and
hope to launch by the end of the year,” he said.
The wallet will launch “with selected partners”, according to Wadsworth.
Subscribers will store their payment and address details in a virtual wallet,
enabling the purchase of products and services simply by entering a PIN.
Launch m-commerce services will include cinema ticket purchase from Digital Rum
and a mini-cab and taxi ordering service, u-go.co.uk, from Obvious Solutions.
