New Mobile E-Cert Allows Individuals and Businesses to Enjoy a High Level of Security When Conducting Business Transactions on the Wireless Internet
Diversinet Corp. (Nasdaq:DVNT - news), a leading provider of mobile commerce (m-commerce) security infrastructure solutions, and Hongkong Post, the first recognized public Certification Authority in Hong Kong, today officially launched Hongkong Post's new Mobile e-Cert service.
In a formal service launch held earlier today in Hong Kong, Diversinet and Hongkong Post officially inaugurated the Hongkong Post's new Mobile e-Cert service to facilitate secure stock trading, banking, gaming, and digitally signed messages over wireless communications devices. Today's service launch marks the first-ever availability of Mobile e-Certs, globally.
Hongkong Post and Diversinet jointly developed the Mobile e-Cert, based on Diversinet's wireless security products. Hongkong Post will support the Mobile e-Certs through its Mobile Certification Authority and mobile operators will act as the Registration Authorities for the authentication of the identity of Mobile e-Cert subscribers.
``The Hongkong Post's new Mobile e-Cert service is essential to the growth of m-commerce in Hong Kong,'' said Nagy Moustafa, President and CEO of Diversinet Corp. ``The service will enable enterprises to launch wireless applications quickly with the high level of security that consumers demand.''
``The establishment of a reliable and seamless security infrastructure for both wireline and wireless digital certificates will greatly enhance the ease of use for end users and further drive the development of e-commerce,'' said Mr. P. C. Luk, Postmaster General, Hongkong Post.
Also participating in the event were Mrs. Carrie Yau, Secretary for Information Technology and Broadcasting Bureau for the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Ms. Agnes Nardi, Managing Director, Hutchison Telecommunications (HK) Ltd.

We are committed to continue working with Hongkong Post in promoting secured mobile commerce transactions in Hong Kong.''
As the event officiator, Mrs. Carrie YAU, Secretary for Information Technology and Broadcasting, the Government of the HKSAR, said, ``The launch of the Hongkong Post Mobile e-Cert system marks a momentous milestone in the development of mobile commerce in Hong Kong. With the launch of this new system, Hong Kong will be the first economy in the world to issue mobile e-Certs for community-wide adoption. This will make Hong Kong a pioneer of mobile service and technology.''
Hongkong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd. also supports the initiatives of Hongkong Post. ``Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) is pleased to learn that Hongkong Post's latest mobile public key infrastructure technology supports the development of secure wireless securities trading applications. These applications can be further leveraged on HKEx's online securities trading infrastructure, the Order Routing System, to bring greater security and convenience to our investors'' said Mr. K C Kwong, Chief Executive of HKEx.
The first phase of the new Mobile e-Cert service will support Palm and Pocket PC PDAs, and mobile phones. Future phases of the service will include the support WAP devices and other PDAs.
