Alliance Enables Secure and Cost-effective
Method for Mobile Payment Services
Purchasing products and services is now as easy
as the push of a button on a mobile phone. Unisys has entered into an agreement
with Mint AB, a leading provider of mobile payment services, to deliver Mint's
state-of-the-art mobile payment services to global financial services and
telecommunications providers.
Under the agreement, Mint's payment solutions will become part of Unisys growing
portfolio of m-commerce applications that enable its clients to enhance customer
loyalty, attract new subscribers, and open additional revenue streams. Unisys
can integrate Mint's value-added mobile payments, loyalty services,
person-to-person transfers and mobile parking payment solutions into a
provider's existing services, giving their customers a quick, convenient and
secure method for making transactions through the mobile phone.
Market research firm Celent Communications predicts that the dollars spent on
mobile payments will grow 260 percent annually from 1999 to 2004, reaching close
to $50 billion.
``The market for secure and easy-to-use mobile payment services is growing at a
fast rate, and through our search for global leaders in this market, we found
Mint AB's service to be superior,'' said Bennet Bayer, vice president,
m-Commerce at Unisys. ``Combining Mint's leading-edge technology with Unisys
proven systems integration abilities gives providers within the financial and
telecommunications industries a distinct advantage for capitalizing on this
market growth. In addition, Unisys can host a company's mobile payment service
from a remote location.''
Mint is an integrated mobile payment and loyalty service enabling consumers to
conveniently order and pay for goods and services through the use of a mobile
device. The consumer can connect any mobile phone to the service and choose to
pay on a prepaid or credit basis. In addition, the mobile payment service can be
used in security applications and has an easy-to-use Internet payment
application.
``Our agreement with Unisys is an important step for Mint,'' said Patrik
Mossberg, CEO of Mint AB. ``Unisys global customer base of financial and
telecommunication operators, in addition to its distribution network, will
enable Mint to reach new markets with our value-added services.''
