1.4bn Bluetooth units by 2005 |
| Sunday - August 6, 2000, Bluetooth-enabled equipment should be on the shelves by the end of this year and will escalate in 2001 with 1.4bn units produced by 2005, according to new research. The report, produced by analyst firm Cahners In-Stat Group, stated that by 2005 the manufacture of Bluetooth-enabled equipment will also exceed 1bn units. Joyce Putscher, a director at the company, said that the earliest Bluetooth adopters will be high-end mobile phone and notebook PC business users. The first Bluetooth mobile phone and notebook computers will hit the market this fall, while desktop PCs with Bluetooth will be available in 2001. Bluetooth is a short-distance wireless technology that allows a range of electronic devices to communicate and synchonise information up to 10 meters.
