Phonebook Editor allows you to modify your entries on your SIM used in the Nokia 8810 and 8850 as well as send SMS messages.

New features:

  • Improved speed while getting numbers from phone
  • Send SMS messages
  • Backup and restore numbers to/from disk
  • Swap numbers from SIM to phone and vice versa
  • Allows up to 250 numbers for phone and another 250 for SIM (if your SIM has enough capacity)

Software Requirements:

Instructions for use:

When you first start, push the properties-Button to set the com port of your infrared device. The proper com-port can be found by double-clicking on the infrared icon in your task bar. Click the Options tab. The second line tells you which com-port to use.

I tested speed at 38.400. It probably works with more but I did not test that. I had better results when I also limited the speed of my infrared port to 38.400.

In the properties window you can also set the maximum number of entries your SIM can store. Also you can set the maximum length of a name. My SIM only allows 10 characters

I made an option where you can set the number of entries of your phone as well. The only benefit of setting the number of entries below 250 is that overwriting your memory from a disk file is faster. If you change this setting, make sure you do not enter more entries than the number you set it to.

To make a connection:

When the internal software version of your Nokia is below 4.05 you should simultaneously activate InfraRed on your Nokia and press the most left button in the toolbar (the one with the infrared icon). With 4.05 or higher you can activate your phone's infra red first and then press the button on the program. If the connection holds, "IR Ok" appears on the status line. Also your Nokia's internal software version appears on the right side of the status line.

The fifth button is no longer gray now, press it after you have chosen which memories you want to read (Sim, Phone or both).
Now you can start editing your phonebook.

Writing to file

When you save your phone numbers to file, only the numbers that are loaded on your screen are saved. So if you want to save SIM and Phone memory separately, first read one memory (phone or sim), save it and then read the other and save it.

Reading from file

When you want to read from file, you have the option to overwrite either memory. Mind that if you choose this for either section, all numbers in that section will be overwritten, even if there are no new numbers for this section in your file.

Tips

  • You can edit an entry by double-clicking the name or icon.
  • If you click an entry and then click the "Send SMS" button, the phone number will appear in the SMS dialog automatically.

Update 16/7/99, Build 43

  • Main window and columns are scalable (only for registered users)
  • Bug in the sendSMS countdown has been fixed
  • New column for Memory position added
  • Some minor bugs fixed
