9/9/98
Globalstar's plans to launch 12 satellites from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan were
dealt a huge blow on 9/9/98 when the rocket carrying these satellites blew up 4min after
launch.
Globalstar hoped to blanket mobile telephone coverage
of South Africa by mid-1999 through Vodacom's service provider agreement with the
satellite-based telecoms system.
The launch event was live via a feed from the Globalstar website. Visit www.globalstar.com.
